X20 Xaviers on the Hudson

Marvelous. This is the first word that comes to mind upon my first glimpse of X20 restaurant. X2O Xaviars on the Hudson is Chef Peter X Kelly’s latest addition to the Xaviars Restaurant Group.  The restaurant juts out over the river and is basically nothing but windows. It is literally impossible to not have a spectacular view from any table.  The GW and Manhattan shine from one direction, the Tappan Zee radiates in the distance from another, and no matter where you sit you are surrounded by the magnificent Palisades and Hudson River. I forgot that I was still in New York.

Besides having an amazing view, the service is top notch. Our waiter was so friendly and warm! Having a down-to-to earth waitstaff makes the experience that much more enjoyable and what going to an upscale restaurant is all about.

There’s a $25 prix fixe lunch weekdays that cannot be missed. It is perhaps the best prix fix meal I have ever had for $25 dollars nonetheless. Our first course was the Yonkers Shellfish Chowder with creamy Bouillabaisse broth and Oysterettes, as well as the Ceasar Salad with Shaved Grana Padanna and garlic croutons. Both dishes were outstanding!

We also ordered an extra appetizer that they graciously split for us. It was the Fresh Spaghetti Chittarra with Lump Crabmeat and Green Onions. We were mopping up the delicious, creamy sauce with bread by the time we were finished with this dish. When I say each bite was decadent, it is an understatement.

My entrée was the Miso Glazed King Salmon with Scallion Risotto & Haricot Vert. This was probably the best salmon dish I have ever had. The fish was so fresh and cooked to perfection. The crust provided enough crunch and the fish was perfectly moist. The scallion risotto was also fantastic.

We also ordered the Berkshire Pork Loin( drizzled with port sauce) with Swiss Chard and Creamy Polenta. This was such a hearty dish. Sometimes pork can be really dry, but this was absolutely tender and meaty. It came with a side of Swiss Chard which was cooked just enough but retained the integrity of the stalky, fibrous texture. And the polenta was cheesy and creamy and went well with the reduction on the side.  I would have licked the plate clean if we weren’t in a high end restaurant!

Are you swooning yet?

Just when we thought that our meal could not have exceeded our expectations any more than it already had, here come the desserts. Again, Kelly delivers here. We ordered the Spicy Pumpkin Cake with Chocolate Ganache ice cream and the Red Velvet Cake with a delicious Amoretto cookie. Each had their own distinct flavor and were equally amazing. When the desserts were placed in front of us I couldn’t believe how monstrous they were. I am still dreaming of how heavenly and insanely decadent they both were.

All in all this was a great culinary experience. I cannot wait to go back and try the Dylan lounge and the sushi bar. I strongly recommend you make a visit to Yonkers and see for yourself the gorgeous downtown waterfront district and enjoy the impeccable dining options offered at Xaviars.
