Happy Hour at Lani Kai

In Food on September 15, 2011 at 8:05 pm

Lani Kai, the Polynesian themed bar and restaurant from cocktail impresario Julie Reiner, has a fabulous happy hour special!  From 4–7 PM, Monday–Friday. You can enjoy bar grub for under $5, including pork bun sliders and crab wontons and a selection of delicious cocktails for $8. With the summer ending you will feel like you’re in tropical Hawaii as soon as you walk in.

Crab wontons, which is lump crab mixed with mascarpone cheese in a crispy wonton, served with a creamy mustard sauce.

Besides an amazing happy hour, I love the décor and feel of Lani Kai. The tiki theme reminds me of PKNY (formerly know as Painkiller before they were forced to change their name because of a lawsuit) and the vibe and space are just as relaxed and laid back.

It doesn’t take more than a couple of rounds before you start to feel the effects of the cocktails here. So we ordered a couple of their sliders and snacks to share. The Pork Bun slider came out with a nice fatty slab of pork belly with pickled Japanese cucumber and Bibb lettuce. Succulent!

The BBQ Short Rib Slider was made with a ginger barbeque sauce and topped with a crunchy slaw. At $3 a piece the meat filling was more than enough.

And the snacks are a perfect combo with the booozy happy hour drinks. You have to try the crisps. They are taro root and Hawaiian sweet potato chips served with a truffle creme fraiche. Addictive!

During their regular hours, most of their drinks are like $13 dollars. But at Lani Kai’s happy hour, drinks are $8 dollars, which is unbelievably reasonable. A great one to try is the 808 State, which is a blend of white rums, pineapple, lime and velvet falernum.

Overall Lani Kai has one of the best happy hour deals in the city. It’s a great place to start off your night with friends and enjoy some magical elixirs.
