Old Sichuan “divine dumplings”

In Food on December 23, 2010 at 1:28 pm

There are so many places to get “little soup dumplings” in New York City. But after trying Old Sichuan Cuisine in Chinatown, it’s going to be a tough place to top. These tender pouches are freshly made to order. They arrive at the table in piping hot bamboo steamers. We ordered the crab meat and pork meat dumplings. Each plump dumpling contains a little pork or crab meatball surrounded by a delightful broth.

They warned us that they were going to be piping hot. So once they did arrive we grabbed a dumpling and placed it on the spoon. I took one bite and the broth started oozing out. Of course I slurped the remaining broth left on the spoon and it was unbelievably savory.

They offer you a sauce that tastes somewhat vinegary. But honestly the dumplings are amazing with or without the sauce.

Each order comes with eight dumplings. I could have easily eaten the whole thing myself. Their dumplings are steamed to perfection and filled with a generous amount of soup. What’s so crazy is that these little “magical” dumplings never burst until you take a bite. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Thank you Old Sichuan for your absolutely divine dumplings!
