Taco Truck in Harlem

In Food on October 26, 2010 at 2:44 pm

Every night between the hours of 8pm-1am Ernesto and Roberto park their unassuming taco truck on the corner of 136th and Broadway. You would probably walk right past it without even knowing that they supply some of the best authentic Mexican food around. These guys are so humble and I don’t think they even realize what a true find they have. They make the most amazing tacos and other Mexican delights using only the freshest ingredients. The tacos are obviously the stars of the show. Two warmed corn tortillas and a meat filling of your choosing.  With the addition of cilantro, chopped white onions and a scattering of ripe tomatoes and lettuce to top the meat.

The carnitas tacos are so juicy and tender. They are so full of flavor, especially with cilantro, onions, and slices of radish. They even have a long counter lined with some very special sauces that they make themselves including a chili sauce, salsa verde, and my favorite, a homemade guacamole sauce. I don’t know what they put in it to make it taste so tantalizing. The chorizo was also to die for. It was not too spicy but had just enough kick that chorizo usually has. Squeeze some fresh wedges of lime on it and you are good to go.

The quesadillas, well they aren’t your average quesadillas. They give so much attention to even frying the soft buttery tortilla. And the cheese inside was mouthwatering. Add some of their homemade green salsa and the combination is overwhelmingly delicious.

These guys make fresh, cheap, and tasty tacos in a city where a good taco is hard to find. Expect to wait a few minutes because everything is made to order right in front of you. This taco truck doles out some of the most authentic Mexican street eats. Even the overstuffed Mexican sandwiches called tortas, are exceptional and topped with red and green salsas, lettuce, tomato and cilantro. Make a trip uptown to this mobile food paradise and you will not be let down.
